Reverse Osmosis Refresh: Why It’s the Upgrade Your Kitchen Deserves Before the Holidays

Reverse osmosis refresh is a process of cleaning a reverse osmosis system to restore its original performance. In this process, some key components of the RO system are replaced instead of an entire unit to improve water quality and flow. It is cost-effective, which increases the system efficiency.

An RO refresh involves replacing the components, like the RO membrane, sediment filter, carbon filters, and post-filter with new ones. The RO membrane filters out up to 99% of dissolved contaminants and the sediment filter removes larger particles like dirt and rust. Carbon filters reduce chlorine and chemicals that cause bad taste and odor, while the post filter polishes the water for taste. These filters get clogged over time due to continuous water filtration and so reverse osmosis refresh becomes important.

When to Refresh Reverse Osmosis?

The following factors indicate that your RO system needs a refresh:

  • If you notice an odor or a bad smell from the water.
  • A reduced water flow from the faucet or fridge dispenser.
  • Cloudy appearance of the water with a bad taste.
  • If the membrane is clogged and the system is running constantly.
  • A high reading on the TDS meter.

Why Refresh Reverse Osmosis?

Maintains Water Safety and Quality

The water filter and RO membrane get clogged when the contaminants and minerals are consistently filtered. Over time, the filters lose their ability to trap impurities if not replaced on time. This allows harmful substances like chlorine, lead, bacteria, and pesticides to pass into your drinking water. It leads to the cloudy appearance of water with an unpleasant taste and odor.

Prevents Costly Damage

Regularly refreshing the filters and cleaning the system prevents costly damage. It protects the sensitive RO membrane from clogging and damage, helping to avoid expensive replacement. It also ensures protection from leaks and reduces stress on components like the motor and other parts, which work hard to push water through a clogged system.

Maintains Performance and Efficiency

A refreshed system runs smoothly and efficiently. It ensures a consistent water pressure and a restored water flow. It keeps the TDS levels within a safe and acceptable range and extends the system lifespan. A refreshed system also prevents the accumulation of impurities, which can degrade the system over time.

Reduces Operational Costs

Neglecting the RO system maintenance can lead to great replacement expenses. Scheduling an RO refresh helps avoid expensive problems, such as a complete system breakdown. It improves efficiency by reducing the utility bills of an overworked and clogged system.

Consistent Pure Water

RO systems have a recommended filter and refreshment lifespan from the manufacturer. Typically, the sediment and carbon pre-filters should be refreshed every 6 to 12 months, while the main RO membrane typically lasts 2 to 5 years. Post-carbon filters also need annual refreshment. Regular and timely refreshment provides pure water consistently.

What Our Customers Say

⭐ 1/5 — If zero stars were an option, I would give zero. I am writing this review after receiving no response or follow-up from CGC Water Treatment regarding several serious, unresolved issues. System failure: Our water treatment system experienced a major failure within the first year. Misleading product information: At installation, I specifically asked whether I could continue using standard filters and was told by the installer that I could. I later discovered that the system requires expensive proprietary filters. These filters were also presented as reusable/washable, but I found them extremely difficult and time-consuming to clean. Billing issue: A $50 coupon I presented when purchasing filters was never applied to my balance. Despite multiple emails detailing these issues, CGC has provided absolutely no support, response, or attempt to resolve the situation. Due to their complete lack of communication, I am now moving forward with formal complaints to the Better Business Bureau and the Michigan Attorney General's Office. I strongly advise others to look elsewhere for their water treatment needs.

Came out right away and did a good job.

Jason is outstanding.

We called this company to replace the expansion tank on our well-pump system. The technician insisted they would install only a fiberglass tank. Eventually, they agreed to install a steel tank if we purchased it ourselves—which we did, for about half the price. The tank is located in a laundry room, not a basement or wet environment. The installation was completed on Friday and cost just shy of $1,400. I was out of town and unable to handle the work myself, so we reluctantly accepted the price. By Saturday, just 24 hours after the Friday close of business, one of the newly connected pipes burst, spraying pressurized water inside the house. Thankfully, we shut off the water within minutes. The company advertises emergency service on its website, so I called immediately. An AI voice collected my information and promised someone would be in touch. Four calls and almost 14 hours later, we never heard from an actual person but we were able to book an appointment on the website for Monday. At first, the earliest we could book was Wednesday, but we managed to negotiate our “emergency” down to only two days without water. Apparently, their emergency service consists of an AI answering the phone and offering emotional support while your house floods. We ultimately found another company that came out and repaired the burst pipe the same day. That was fortunate, because waiting until Monday, or Wednesday, without running water was not especially appealing. Oddly enough, the technician showed a highly corroded piece of steel pipe thread into a brittle and cracked pvc connection at the exact connection point to the tank. I guess that inspecting the connecting pipe was a little much. From the insistence on the more expensive tank, to the nearly $1,400 installation, to the pipe failing the next day, to the nonexistent weekend emergency response, this experience was unacceptable from start to finish. I would not recommend this company to anyone. One star, only because Google has not yet introduced negative numbers. Please, for the love of all things Holy, do not use this company. They basically took a donation of over a $1000 and made our plumbing issue worse.
